The Shaping Only course is a private one-on-one course for people who want to learn how to design and hand-shape a surfboard without doing the full glassing and finishing process.
You start from a skinned CNC blank and work through the practical shaping process with experienced instruction at The Surfboard Studio in Preston.

The course fee does not include the foam blank. A blank can be purchased on the day of the session, or you can provide your own.
What You Learn
Shaping Principles & Process
Bay Setup & Tool Selection
Get familiar with the shaping bay, planer, sanding blocks, measuring tools, templates, and safe tool handling.
Template, Rocker & Bottom Curve
Work from a skinned blank and learn how template choice, rocker, bottom contours, and foil affect the board.
Rails, Plugs & Finish-Sanding
Hand-foil rails, refine your shape, discuss plug installation, and finish-sand the board ready for the next stage.

Booking Request
Use the booking form below with suggested dates and as much detail as possible about the board you want to shape.
Courses usually run Thursday to Sunday and are not available during school holidays or public holidays. Book at least two weeks ahead so the studio can arrange and prepare the blank.

Course TermsBookings are final due to limited spaces and high demand. Date changes are considered at the studio's discretion and attract a $250 administration fee. Email change requests at least 30 days before your course date.
