What is the difference between cold and warm-water wax?

Cold-water wax is generally softer so it stays tacky in lower temperatures. Warm and tropical formulas are firmer so they resist softening in hotter conditions.

Do I need a base coat?

A base coat can build firm bumps that hold the suitable top coat. Check the wax maker's method because application systems can differ between brands.

When should I remove all the old wax?

Strip it when the layer is heavily dirty, unstable, too thick, changing temperature formula or when the deck needs inspection, repair or preparation.

What does a wax comb do?

A comb scores and lifts flattened wax to refresh texture between applications. It does not replace a full clean when the wax layer is contaminated or failing.

Can wax remover be used on every surfboard?

Check the remover and board-finish directions first. Use only a compatible product, keep it away from damaged areas where required and test cautiously if the finish is uncertain.
