Additives

Shop surfboard resin additives and fillers for compatible glassing and repair work, including Q-Cel microspheres, fibreglass powder, MEKP catalyst, UV catalyst, wax in styrene and styrene monomer. These products perform different jobs and are not interchangeable. Choose the base resin first, then select only the filler, catalyst or additive specified for that resin and application. Measure carefully and follow every product label for compatibility, ventilation, protective equipment, storage and curing.

What is Q-Cel used for?

Q-Cel microspheres are mixed into compatible resin to create a lighter filler for fairing and repair work. Add it gradually and follow the product directions for the resin system.

When should I use fibreglass powder?

Fibreglass powder adds reinforcement when blended with a compatible resin. It can suit repairs, fin installation and leash plug work where a stronger filled resin mix is required.

Is MEKP the same as epoxy hardener?

No. MEKP is a catalyst for compatible polyester resin and gelcoat systems. It is not an epoxy hardener and must be measured and handled exactly as directed.

What does wax in styrene do?

Wax in styrene is added to compatible polyester resin when a non-tacky, sandable surface cure is needed. It is used differently from plain styrene monomer.

What is styrene monomer used for?

Styrene monomer can thin compatible polyester and vinylester resins. Only use it when the resin directions call for it, and follow all ventilation and safety requirements.
