The Surfboard Studio Polyester UV Active Filler Resin

Polyester UV resin - pick up in store only.

POLYESTER RESIN - DO NOT USE ON EPS SURFCRAFT.

The Filler Resin (Hot Coat) has been formulated with UV Additive. This formulation enables the resin to cure when exposed to UV rays from the sun, eliminating the need for MKEP Catalyst. The UV Solar Additive is a curing agent that utilises UV for catalysing (hardening) of the resin.

Please ensure when repairing or laminating a surfboard you keep the resin AWAY FROM DIRECT SUN LIGHT as this will cause rapid hardening of resin.

Surfboard polyester UV resin is suitable for fibreglass PU surfboards, sailboards, wave skis, cars, caravans, canoes, kayaks and other fibreglass products.

All surfaces should be clean, dry and free from waxes and oil. Care should be taken to avoid contact of resin with eyes and skin.

Here are the estimated curing times based on sunlight conditions:

  1. Bright Sun:

    • Gel: 15 Seconds
    • Full cure: 5 minutes
  2. Partial Sun:

    • Gel: 30 Seconds
    • Full cure: 6-8 minutes
  3. Intense Sun:

    • Gel: 45-60 Seconds
    • Full cure: 10 minutes

For optimal efficiency:

  • Conduct your work indoors or in an isolated area away from sunlight.
  • Always perform a test using a small resin sample in sunlight before full application.
  • If the repair depth exceeds 1/4 inch, you must incorporate MEKP Catalyst (Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide) into the resin at a 1% ratio to initiate catalysis.
  • When using MEKP, curing times for a 1/4-inch depth should be around 15-30 minutes.

Note: Please allow additional time for 'Pick up in Store" with larger volumes of resin - we will send you a notification when it is ready to collect
